So now I can finally drop some names. Yes, the character I'm talking about, as you may have guessed, is Lady Stoneheart. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Michelle Fairley talked a bit about what the future may, or may not hold, for Lady Stoneheart's future.
For those of us who are hoping she'll make a return in season 5, simply enough it's not looking so good. When asked about the the future of her character, and the likelihood of the character making a reappearance, Michelle simply answered with:
Yeah, the character’s dead. She’s dead.
So from this it's not looking like we'll ever get to see Lady Stoneheart appear on screen. Of course it's not like she would publicly say that Lady Stoneheart is returning. This is something that will have to be decided by Benioff and Weiss. I'm just gonna say though that Michelle could be speaking metaphorically when she said "She’s dead," she could be talking about Catelyn Stark being dead, and interrupting Lady Stoneheart as an entirely different character. I can at least hope, right?
Michelle Fairley brings up the a very important point. And that is that the show simply cannot have all those characters, and minor events, that that are in the books. It would be amazing if they could, but unfortunately the show only has 10 episodes a season. This limit in time has resulted in many events, and characters, being cut from simply due to time constraints per season.
You respect the writers’ decision. I knew the arc, and that was it. They can’t stick to the books 100 percent. It’s impossible—they only have 10 hours per season. They have got to keep it dramatic and exciting, and extraneous stuff along the way gets lost in order to maintain the quality of brilliant show.
So what do you think about this? Are you alright if they cut Lady Stonheart from the show?
