New Winds of Winter Sample Chapter

A new sample chapter from The Winds of Winter has just been released on George R.R. Martins official website.  The chapter is an Arianne chapter, which is very interesting for a number of reasons.  The main reason that its so interesting, to me, is that Arianne has been left out from Game of Thrones.  Possibly this is George showing us book-readers that even if the show is moving ahead, we don't need to be worried since the show has excluded so many key players in the series.

Clink the link here to head on over and check out the sample chapter for yourself!  And when you do, come back here and discuss the chapter in the comments below.

George R.R. Martin Meeting His Editors and Publishers in August

We all knew George R.R. Martin was taking time off to push forward with writing The Winds of Winter.  But in a recent post over at George's Not a Blog, he's said something that quite interesting:

So I'm headed east the first week of August... for a wedding, yes, and no, that's private, so you don't get to hear any more about it... but I am going to see my editors and publishers and agents while I am in town, and do some other fun stuff... including a ball game.

In the comments of the post, one person asked if this meeting with his editors, publishers, and agents was in regards to The Winds of Winter.  Which George simply answered by saying:

Oh, I imagine so.  It comes up from time to time, can't think why.

Maybe George is finally starting to wrap his writing on The Winds of Winter.  Whatever the case may be, it'll be interesting to see what new details come out about the book in August after his meetings.

George R.R. Martin Not Writing an Episode for Season 6

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly George R.R. Martin commented on plan to double down on his commitment to focus on finishing The Winds of Winter.  A while back George took to his Not a Blog to tell us that he would cutting back on the public appearances and interviews so that he could focus his time on finishing the sixth book in his series.

Now George has confirmed that he would, once again, step away from penning an episode for HBO's Game of Thrones - as he previously did for season 5.  Martin has also canceled his planned convention appearance for the upcoming San Diego Comic Con.  All of this is so that George can finish The Winds of Winter before the sixth season of Game of Thrones.

Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.”

It's good to see how much time George is setting aside to focus in on finishing TWOW.  So do you think George will finish, and get TWOW published before season 6 airs?

George R.R. Martin Talks Winds of Winter Release Date and Unexpected Twist

George R.R. Martin Talks Winds of Winter Release Date and Unexpected Twist

Well we didn't get a release date, but we got a pretty optimistic prediction as to when we could expect The Winds of Winter from George R.R. Martin.  In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, George pushes forward with his intention to publish The Winds of Winter before the premiere of season 6 of Game of Thrones.

I wish it was out now.  Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish.  But I canceled tow convention appearances, I'm turning down a lore more interviews - anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.

When asked about any regret when looking back at not continuing his writing on Winds of Winter after finishing A Dance with Dragons in 2011, George said:

I was red hot on the book and I put it aside for six months.  I was so into it.  I was pushing so hard that I was writing very well.  I should have just gone on from there, because I was so into it and it was moving so fast then.  But I didn't because I had to switch gears into the editing phase and then the book tour.  The iron does cool off, for me especially.

New Winds of Winter Sample Chapter

George R.R. Martin has just released a new sample chapter, for the much anticipated upcoming book, The Winds of Winter.  Of courses for spoiler reasons, I cannot say whose POV the chapter is from, or what happens in the chapter.  Later this week I'll write another post covering my thoughts on the chapter.

But for those of you who have read through A Dance with Dragons, you can find the new Winds of Winter sample chapter right here.

George R.R. Martin Clearing his Schedule to Work on The Winds of Winter

For those of you who have complained about George R.R. Martin going to to many press junkets, or making to many TV appearances, or just attending to many cons around the world.  Well, you'll no longer be able to say that.  Martin took to his Live Journal to announce that he is clearing his schedule so he can complete The Winds of Winter.

In his Live Journal post he announces that he is cutting the World Fantasy Con from his 2015 appearances list.  And although it has not officially made its way onto his list yet, he also announced that he will not be attending San Diego Comic Con - poor SDDC, first Marvel announces they wont be attending and now GRRM.

It's the final sentence in Martin's post that is making everyone talk:

(Should I complete and deliver WINDS OF WINTER before these cons roll round, I reserve the right to change my mind).

So lets look at when these two cons are exactly.  San Diego Comic Con is in mid July, and the World Fantasy Con is in November.  So it is possible that George will finish and deliver Winds of Winter before either of these?  Well I don't think there's a chance we see the book finished before the end of the year, but I won't resist if Martin's surprises us all with an end of the year present.

So what do you make of all this?  Do you think there's any chance Martin finishes Winds of Winter before the World Fantasy Con?

The Winds of Winter Prologue?

The Winds of Winter Prologue?

During the Game of Thrones Comic Con panel George R.R. Martin let slip a little piece of information about The Winds of Winter.  Now what that little piece of information is has to do with a character that will be making an appearance in the prologue of The Winds of Winter.  Now as you may have guessed this topic is pretty spoilery.  So for that reason the details will be below the break!

So what George said during the panel is that we would be seeing Jeyne Westerling in the prologue of The Winds of Winter.  Now when you first hear this you might think "oh no!  George is finally killing off Jeyne in the books!" which is rightfully thought when we look back at the fates of prologue/epilogue characters.  But George never said that the Jeyne would be the POV of the prologue, simply that she would be making an appearance.  Check out this interview with George, after the Comic Con panel, from Zap2it, in which he clarifies a bit more on Jeynes role in the prologue.

George R.R. Martin Not Writing an Episode for Season 5

Well it would seem George is getting quite serious about finishing The Winds of Winter.  In a recent interview with EW George R.R. Martin said he would not be writing an episode for season 5 of Game of Thrones, but will rather be spending his time finishing the book.   In the past George has always written one episode for each season.  The episodes he has are: The Pointy End (Season 1, Episode 8), Blackwater (Season 2, Episode 9), The Bear and the Maiden Fair (Season 3, Episode 7), and The Lion and the Rose (Season 4, Episode 2).  All the episodes written by George have been fantastic, and although I'll miss having George writing an episode in season 5 I'm happy that he is going to be spending more time on The Winds of Winter.
