Viewership Drops for "Kill the Boy"

The numbers are in for last weeks episode of Game of Thrones, titled "Kill the Boy", and they're not what I had expected.  According to Nielsen, the first airing of "Kill the Boy" was watched by 6.56 million viewers - making it the least watched episode of the season so far.  Although it still topped the charts for its Nielsen rating.

I had expected this episode to pull in closer to 7 million viewers, being the first non-leaked episode of the season.  Coming in with only 6.56 million viewers is kind of shocking to me.  Historically episode 5 of each season has pulled in a higher viewership than every preceding episode, even the premiere.  Maybe it was the fact that "Kill the Boy" coincided with Mothers Day.  Whatever the case may be for the lowered viewership, maybe this is the type of viewership we should expect to see for the duration of the season.

Whatever the case may be, it will be interesting to see how next weeks episode does.  No holidays, and no leaks.  How do you think next weeks episode, "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken", will do?  Do you think it will stay of par with these past few weeks, or will it come closer to the impressive numbers of the season premiere?

"Kill the Boy" Breaks Piracy Record

Season 5 of Game of Thrones is becoming the season of pirates.  Having the first four episodes of the season leak online mere hours before the premiere, and now the fifth episode, "Kill the Boy", has shattered the record for the most pirated episode of all time.

Within 12 hours of airing on TV "Kill the Boy" had already been downloaded by 2.2 million individuals, according to Excipio.  The episode reached 3.22 million downloads within a 24-hour period.  The previous record for piracy downloads was set by season four premiere of Game of Thrones, gaining a total of 1.86 million downloads in the first 24 hours after it aired.

According to Excipio, and Variety, within the first 24-hour period after initially being pirated the top 5 countries for pirating the Game of Thrones episode "Kill the Boy" were: the US (273,468 downloads), the UK (202, 482), Brazil (196,853), Australia (176,207) and France (173,213)

"Kill the Boy" Preview

We're just a few hours away from the first, unleaked, episode fro, the fifth season of Game of Thrones.  Tonight's episode will pick up on the major cliff hanger we left off on in episode 4, "Sons of the Harpy".

HBO has released two previews for tonight's episode on there Instagram account.  The first one teased a Bolton family dinner, and the second was a discussion between Jon Snow and Maester Aemon - although the Jon Snow clip has been taken down.

The plot synopsis for tonight's episode, "Kill the Boy", is:

Dany (Emilia Clarke) makes a difficult decision in Meereen.  Jon (Kit Harington) recruits the help of an unexpected ally.  Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) searches for Sansa (Sophie Turner).  Theon (Alfie Allen) remains under Ramsay's (Iwan Rheon) control.

As always these plot synopses are quite vague in their description.  But for those of you who don't want any information on them, I'll leave them below the break.

Titles Released for Episodes 505-507

Adding to the list of known episode titles for the upcoming season, GeekyInc has broken the news for episode titles 505-507.  GeekyInc previously brought us the titles for episodes 501-504.

The titles are:

Episode 505: "Kill the Boy"

Episode 506: "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken"

Episode 507: "The Gift"

The biggest surprise for me is episode 505.  I'm excited to see that they have decided to take the route with the quote, "Kill the boy and let the man be born."  Lets just hope the shows depiction of this story is as good the books.

So what do you think of these three episode titles?
