According to The Hollywood Reporter it seems that HBO has renegotiated the contracts with several of the main stars of Game of Thrones, to include the potential of a seventh season.
Now for a show that is known for killing off main characters this news may seem like it could lead to spoilers. You might be thinking "if shes signed on until season 7, there's no possibility they can die sooner." And that's where you'd be wrong. HBO has only signed them on to potentially be in the seventh season - the other side of the coin is that the character might die sooner, and because of that loose out on their large paycheck.
The actors who have renegotiated their contracts are:
- Kit Harington (Jon Snow)
- Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister)
- Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister)
- Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen
- Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister)
- Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell)
- Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark)
- Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)
The Hollywood Reporter also makes it seem that their are more actors who have renegotiated their contracts, although it is not clear who those other actors are at the time.
Now even though this doesn't make these characters 100% safe in the show, it seems like it increase the likelihood of them surviving. This also brings up the questions of what does this mean for the books? For everyone whose read the books you know the show has slowly been diverging from the source material, and if those changes continue where exactly will the story be in the seventh season? I'm sure the ending will be the same, but the middle, and those small little details that make us return to the books for a re-read will surely be different (or more likely not even in the show). I guess all I'm trying to say is that it's very interesting to see this list after seeing where we left off with some of these characters at the end of A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons
So what do you think of this news? And how much do you think this increases the characters likelihood of surviving to the seventh, and possibly final, season of Game of Thrones.
