Our newest actor has joined the ranks for season 5 of Game of Thrones. Michael Condron will be taking on the role of Bowen Marsh.  This confirmation came through Michael's agency, initially spotted by Watchers on the Wall.

According to Michael's CV he will be appearing in three episodes this season.  The three episodes he'll be making an appearance in will be directed by Michael Slovis, Mark Mylod, and Jeremy Podeswa.  So taking this into consideration we can expect to see Michael in three of the following episodes: 501, 502, 503, 504, 505, or 506.

Bowen Marsh is a man of the Night's Watch, and is the First Steward.  Now not much has happened with the character in the show so far - Yes, Bowen Marsh has appeared in the show but just as a background character with a few lines.  But all that said season 5 will definitely have much more to offer for the character.

So for those of us who have the read the books - seriously if you haven't, leave now you don't want this spoiled - you know that Bowen Marsh plays a vital role in A Dance with Dragons.  However there are still a few things that haven't happened yet, and because of this I'm very curious where this story will go.

When we left off at the Wall John had still not been elected as Lord Commander. Now it is likely that we will be seeing the election for the Lord Commander this season, but when exactly is the question.  It would make sense for it, I think, to be somewhere around episode 504.  But if we assume that Bowen Marsh's big scene will be in this season as well, and his last possible episode would be 506, it just doesn't seem like there's enough time to fit everything in.   Also having Bowen's scene anywhere but the finale doesn't work.  So maybe his big scene will be in season 6.

Now there are a few reasons why I don't think having Bowen Marsh be the one who strikes the blow will work in the show.  In the books his character is fleshed out muc more, and had some role and interaction with Jon throughout the books.  In the show however he will essentially be a new character, and because of this will loose some of the emotion behind what he does (I'm trying to be vague, if you hadn't noticed).  Maybe this is just me, but I think Edd would make much more sense to take over for this role in the show.  Edd has been around since season 2 and actually has some connection to Jon, which simply enough Bowen will not have.

So what do you think of all this?  Let me know your thoughts below!  And as always please tag for spoilers.
