Two Martells Cast for Season 5

Siddig

From HBO's video,Season 5 -New Cast Members,  we got the news that 2 Martell's  joining the cast.  Those two are Doran Martell, and Trystane Martell.   House Martell is one of the Great Houses of Westeros, and is the ruling house of Dorne.  We met our first Martell in season 4,  Oberyn Martell now its time to meet his older brother, and nephew.

Lets start off by looking at Doran Martell.  Doran will be played by Alexander Siddig - who has appeared in movies such as Kingdom of Heaven and Reign of Fire.  In HBO's press release Doran was described as:

Doran Martell is the ruling lord of Dorne and older brother to the late Prince Oberyn Martell. Unlike his brother, Doran is even-tempered and deliberate. Now, all of Dorne waits to see how their lord will react to his brother’s death.

I'm curious to see if the show will stick to the Doran we know so well in the books.  The main characteristic I'm curious to see is  Doran's bad case of gout.  There is no reason to believe that they will get rid Doran's case of gout in the show, but its one of my major concerns.  As far as the actor playing Doran, Alexander Siddig, the choice by HBO was absolutely perfect.  There is almost no one else I would rather see in this role.

Now onto our second new Martell and the son of Doran, Trystane Martell.  Trystane will be played by Toby Sebastian.  From the looks of it Toby is a fairly new actor, he has some prior history but not to much.  Of course this may make some hesitant, but looking back at the beginning of Game of Thrones, I have faith that HBO has made a good decision with this casting choice.  As for HBO's press release, here is what is said about Trystane:

Trystane Martell is Prince Doran’s son and heir to Dorne. His father betrothed him to Myrcella Baratheon as part of the alliance offered by Tywin Lannister, then Hand of the King.

Some of you may have forgotten that Myrcella was sent to Dorne all the way back in season 2, in a marriage alliance.  This is also part of the reason why they recast a new actress to play Myrcella Baratheon (Check back for my post on this).

So what do you think of these two casting decisions? Let me know in the comments!

There is one last thing I want to talk about.  But it may fall somewhere in the spoiler territory.  So if you haven't read A Feast for Crows stay above the break.

So for all of us who have read the books, one thing probably stuck out in HBO's press release talking about Trystane.  The fact that Trystane is not Doran's heir.  The actual heir, as we all know, is Arianne Martell.  Arianne was not even mentioned in the cast update.  This has lead many of us to speculate and question if she will ever be cast, or if the show will simply leave her out.  Now this is a huge problem, as Arianne is a POV character in the books, and her importance in the story would seem necessary to include in the show.  Now of course there is the possibility she will either be cast later, or even the possibility she'll show up in the following season.  But as for right now I guess all we can do is sit around and wait to see what happens.

Let me know what you think about the future of Arianne.  If your comment is about this particular topic please leave a spoiler tag in your comment.
