For those who have finished the A Song of Ice and Fire series and wanted to continue traveling through the wonderfully immense world of Westeros that George has created, you may have found yourself reading the Dunk & Egg novellas. The three Dunk & Egg novellas that have been released as of now are The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight. The first two of these novellas, The Hedge Knight and The Sworn Sword, have been adapted into graphic novels. The third, The Mystery Knight, is currently being worked on by Random House, with Ben Avery working on the script and Mike S. Miller doing the artwork.
The Dunk & Egg novellas has no set amount of novellas it will include. All we know is that it will include as many as is needed to tell the tales of Dunk and Egg.
it has always been my intent to write a whole series of novellas about Dunk and Egg, chronicling their entire lives. At various times in various interviews I may have mentioned seven novellas, or ten, or twelve, but none of that is set in stone. There will be as many novellas as it takes to tell their tale, start to finish.
The fourth Dunk & Egg novella, The She-Wolves of Winterfell, was going to be included in Dangerous Women but due to time constraints on the book George replaced The She-Wolves of Winterfell with The Princess and The Queen.
The unfinished novella was indeed set in Winterfell, and involved a group of formidable Stark wives, widows, mothers, and grandmothers that I dubbed 'the She-Wolves,' but "The She-Wolves of Winterfell" was never meant to be more than a working title. The final title, when I finish the story, will be something different. There's also another Dunk & Egg novella that I've got roughed out in my head, with the working title "The Village Hero." That one takes place in the Riverlands. There's no telling when I will have time to finish either of these, or which one I will write first. I don't expect I will know more until I've delivered THE WINDS OF WINTER.
In 2015 we can expect to see A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms which will include the three Dunk & Egg stories that have already been released: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight. This will be a wonderful collection of the three novellas, with the added bonus of having art on every single page done by Gary Gianni, who also has done the artwork for the 2014 Ice & Fire calendar.
